Insider Tips: Contenders for 2017’s Best Pinot Noir

Posted on Nov 29, 2017

Which of these wines will take out Vinloco’s Top Pinot Noir for 2017?

These are the likely contenders from the 41,000 wine show scores we’ve indexed this year. After a filtering our database to show gold medal winners – a good but not foolproof method of highlighting contenders – we’ve come up with the following wines:

  • Coldstream Hills Deer Farm Pinot Noir 2015
  • Eddystone Point Pinot Noir 2016
  • Meadowbank Pinot Noir 2016
  • Home Hill Estate Pinot Noir 2016
  • Home Hill Kellys Reserve Pinot Noir 2015
  • Santolin Willowlake Pinot Noir 2015
  • Akarua Central Otago Pinot Noir 2016
  • Heemskerk Pinot Noir 2016

Home Hill and Eddystone Point certainly have the pedigree. Eddystone Point was the top pinot noir on the 2016 circuit while Home Hill is a past winner of the esteemed Jimmy Watson Trophy at the nation’s biggest show – the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards.

But they will have strong competition. The wines listed above have collectively picked up nearly 3000 points between them in gold medals alone this year.

We’ve got a lot of number crunching to do before we announce the final winner early next year but pinot fans keen to get hold of a top wine in this category would do worse than go early on any of the above.
